I rarely accept research assistants without a PhD degree, but an exception was made for Tony because of his burning desire for research and intellectual curiosity which imprinted me favorably in the interview.
I rarely accept research assistants without a PhD degree,Tony, however,is an exception, because his burning desire for research and intellectual curiosity imprinted me favorably in the interview.
(1)I rarely accept research assistants without a PhD degree “我通常不接受没有博士学位的研究助理” 这半句里without这样用可以吧?
(2)but an exception was made for Tony./ Tony,however,is an exception.“但是Tony是一个例外” 这两句PK哪句更加地道?
(3)because of sth which imprinted me favorably.../ because sth imprinted me favorably...

I rarely accept research assistant who is without a PhD degree.
