1.Bert was so forgetful that he would show up for work on Sunday ( ) it was Monday
A.and thought B.thinking
2.The injured passengers on the airplane ( ) found themselves miles from the nearest hospital
A.that crashed B.crashed
3.Hospitals telepones and railways require continuous spending on new equipment and new development ,if they ( ) properly
A.are to serve B.would serve
B A A

第三题,这里的are to do 表示“想,打算”,相当于intend, want.

1 thinking
2 that crashed
3 are to serve

2.如果选择and thought,则与前面的动词show up并列,就变成了他先show up再thought it was Monday,而我们一般知道,肯定是因为先误认星期天是星期一再去工作。除非是......thought it was Monday and show up for work on Sunday才是正确的。
如果选择that crushed, the airplane就作从句的主语了,带入从句中就变成了that the airplane crushed,表主动,与句意不符,除非改成that the airplane was crushed.
3.选择are to serve,这句话的意思是:如果(想要)他们可以很好的(为我们)服务,这里的be to=can/may表可以,可能。 The news is to be found in the evening paper.

1. B
2. B
3. A

.第三 计划 are to serve
