I cannot tell you how other programs achieve a rectangular or square texture map.I am just the guy that uses the software,not the guy who invents it.I have noticed though that when I import a model made in Rhino that many of the maps are rectangular or square in UV Mapper Pro until I remap them.
Have you a special preference for rectangular maps?I need a map that I can recognize the shape of the part in when I am painting textures and need to match up surfaces across seams.
I do not have Deep UV,so I can only guess what might cause the file expansion.Are you creating normals or adding geometry by using subdivision routines inside of Deep UV?This might do it.
