An old Act of Parliament,passed some hundreds of years ago,explans clearly the purpose of insurance ,which is to arrange matters so that'the loss lights rather easily upon many,than heavily upon few'.If you ever read the newspapers or listen to the news,you cannot help but be aware that every day some unfortunate people somewhere are undergoing misfortunes of various kinds,resulting,often through no fault of their own,in loss or damage to property,or injury to themselves,or perhaps even death.
