they were talking loudy 为什么不用they talked loudly呢如果用后者意思有变化么?
Last week I went to the theatre .I had a very good seat .The play was very interesting .I did not enjoy it .A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me .They were talking loudly .I got very angry .I could not hear the actors .I turned round .Looked at the man and the woman angrily .They did not pay any attention .In the end .I could not bear it .I turned round again.‘ I can `t hear a word ’ I said angrily.
‘It `s none of your business ,’ the young man said rudely .‘This is a private conversation!’

The text is from "New Concept English".
I was very angry at the moment when they were talking. With the help of Past Continuous Tense, we can sense the man's angry feeling more profoundly and vividly.
If you insist on using the sentence "they talked loudly.", it would be OK as far as grammar problem is concerned. But, as a writer, since you have a better choice, why not picking it up.

他们在谈论‘大声’??
这是新概念第二册第一课吧?好亲切

用了过去进行时,表明他们一直在大声的说话.
如果只是普通的过去式,意思就变成了他们可能只说了一小会儿,然后就不说了.
