It was two weeks before Christmas and I‘d taken time off work to spend with my children.On most days around this time,things were beginning to get busy.
I noticed a lot of letters on the road.I quickly realized that they must have fallen off a postman‘s motorbike.
I was already late for picking my son up and didn‘t really have time to stop,I told myself.
Now that the road was so busy,someone else would pick them up,surely.
I looked at my six-year-old daughter and asked,―Should I stop and pick them up?‖ She answered,―Of course!‖ So I pulled over.
Cars were stopped.Many letters were flying and rolling down the road.I said to myself,―Just do your best and pick one up at a time.Finally you‘ll get them all.‖
And with that,I began picking up the letters.Before I knew it,two other cars had pulled over and their drivers had joined me in picking up the letters.
Just then,a very grateful young postman pulled up.I looked up at the drivers we all smiled.We had worked together for the good of all without any cause or reward.
But the most important lesson I learnt that day was from my daughter.She taught me more about the spirit of Christmas than I could ever teach her.
