Some friends and I were desperate to find a place in Rome for just one night before we headed back home after our whirlwind Italian holiday. We found this place through Rick Steve's Italy 2009 guidebook and the website didn't look horrible (again,we only needed a place to rest our heads for a few hours).I find Rick Steve's is usually good to follow, but this place was really the pits.I should have come to the website! When we walked up,the crumbling, dirty facade of the building had us laughing already - neither of my friends have ever stayed in hostels and were apprehensive to begin with, this hostel fulfilled their worst nightmare.I have stayed in hostels in 3rd world countries that were 100x better than this.Anyway,it is a walk-up so beware if you have heavy luggage. They are under construction and yet still think it's okay to room people amidst all the construction crap going on.We again laughed as they pointed into a hallway with no floor (just cement),pieces of wood, nails, rebar, etc.and the end contained our room. The bathroom was skeevy and the public kitchen right off of our room was gross - the refrigerator had rotten food in it!There was no air conditioning, but there was a fan,but no screen in window and bugs flying in.Uncomfortable! At first all we could do was laugh at how terrible it all was and consider leaving, but then we sucked it up,got out and roamed the city and then came and snoozed for a few hours prior to leaving for airport.I could go on forever about this experience, but it did make us want to/ready for our trip home. The only positive was that the head of the staff (Mirella) was very sweet and had some staff members help us with our luggage up and down the multiple staircases. The other staff members were a bit curt (as mentioned in other reviews I just read now).I would never recommend this place unless it had a complete rehaul of sorts!
