And it is also the responsibility of our Beijing high school students!
Welcome to Beijing! Thank you!
Ladies and gentlemen:
Good morning!
Today, my speech is “I am the part of the Green Olympics”.
The Olympic Games will be held in our country in two years’ time. “Green Olympics” is one of the Three Themes of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The Beijing government had made a great effort in order to protect the environment, build more “Green project”, keep the ecological balance, push the recycling economy, and protects the water resource.
For example ,the government will be building new hotels ,an immense stadium ,and a new Olympic-standard swimming pool ,and more building will be built outside the capital and will be called ‘Olympic City’ .My home is there ,so I am looking forward to the Olympic.
As a Chinese, as a Beijing high school student, we should play an active role in the actions aimed at the realization of Green Olympics. So we should start it from ourselves, our family, our friends and other people around us.
Though our country is very beautiful and modern now, it has any problem .I always see cars producing smog on the street. And in the bathrooms, I see students leaving the water tap on after using them. Not only the young people, but also the elderly ones throw things everywhere without thinking, it's wrong, even in a beautiful park. These things are taking place every day, even in modern cities like Beijing.
So, let's begin to act! First of all, start with the things around you. Don't throw rubbish onto the road. Don't talk loudly when you are outdoors. Turn off the water tap after using it. Go to school by bike or by bus instead of by private car. Save your pocket money and contribute to environmental protection organizations. After washing the clothes, we can use it to flash the toilet, and we can stop somebody from demolishing environment. For me, I always pick up rubbish and throw it into a trashcan. I collect waste paper or bottles for recycling. I plant more trees and flowers, and so on. We should start from every little thing around us to truly realize the “Green Olympic”. We're grateful, because the emblem of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is a precious treasure dedicated to the Olympic Movement by the people of China. Express the spirit of Olympic, publicize the theme of "Green Olympic", and let Beijing really reaches the "Green Olympic" in 2008. This is the responsibility of anyone who loves peace. And it is also the responsibility of our Beijing high school students!
Welcome to Beijing! Thank you!

1.My First Day on the Campus
I still remember the day when I first came to the college. Being a boy of 17, I was longing for a new life as a college student; but, at the same time, I had no idea what college life would be like.
That morning when the bus carried me to the gate of the college. I was so excited that my heart was beating very fast as if it would leap out of my mouth. From now on, I would be a student of this college. After registration, we were led by an instructor to the dormitory, where, for the first time, we were going to live without parents but roommates. I was so clumsy that I did not know how to make the bed and fix the mosquito net.
In the afternoon, I took a walk around the campus together with my roommates. To think of studying in such a beautiful place made me feel quite proud of myself. As we were walking along, talking and laughing, a voice came into our ears, "Oh, look at these freshmen!" It was our middle-school-students' looking that gave us away. We continued our tour of the college, inspecting every building and every garden until the sun began to set.
In the evening, we sat together, talking about the past and the future. We were so excited that no one wanted to go to bed.
2.My college life
I am proud of being a college student. I like my college life as it is so wonderful time in my youth. As being born in small village of the remote countryside, I didn't have a good education environment. However, I set a goal and felt confident to be a college student. After hard study, I passed the entrance examination of national college by excellent achievement. All people were proud of me, as I was the first college student in my village. I was farewell warmly by them when I came to school. I was warmly welcome by school, too. After then, I’ve felt my study is not only for myself but also for the honor of my village neighborhood and our school.
The college life is wonderful. All life in school are fresh. New teachers, new classmates and fresh friends are around me. I’ve felt their friendship, wide knowledge and opening mind. The grand library, school buildings and wide playground are very attracting to me. I am very eager to learn much knowledge quickly. In high school, I was ever called as a runner before time. Now,I know I am behind time so much in fact. I hope to catch up with the time by my hard studying. Every day, you can see me get up early, doing exercise hard and go to school the first one. At night, I am the one who leaves away the library. The most interesting thing is that I can’t speak the PUTONGHUA well and made many funny events at the beginning, as I am from South. When I entered the classroom at first time, I was headache as I couldn’t understand what the professor was speaking. I met much difficulties at math, physics and other courses, even though I used to be good at these sciences. Therefore, I learn these courses myself after class. After three months, the exmination indicated that I overcame all the difficlties. I also improved my listening and spoken ability of Chinese quickly. Communication is very important to my college life. I study English hard as well. It makes me have many chances to communicate with foreigners. I made friends with many foreign teachers and students. From them, I learn many knowledge about foreign cultures. The computer room is another place I like to staying. I contact the outside world by the internet. All the News, advance science, and the information about internal and outside of China.
Besides study, my college life is also very colorful. I’d like to take any chance to improve my communication skill. I am the monitor and playing an active role in class and school. Last year, I organized a speech match in management department. All the classmates were very interested in this kind of activity. I learned from them much about their hometown, their knowledge and opinions. At the same time, I shew my beautiful hometown to everyone. In school, I take care all the classmates around me. I am so poor due to from the romote countryside. The school pay most the fee for my education. I feel very happy. However, I know some classmates are poorer than me. I am willing to care them and encourage each other.
My college life is long and short. I believe that I can spend a good time in the four years. I hope I will have no any regretion when I look back the short youth of college in the future.
3.The Trip to Beijing
I used to think Beijing must be a grand and special city, given that it was the
capital of China, and lots of events I have heard took place there. But soon after I got off the plane, I knew all was but my illusion. If I had to use one wordto describe it, nothing but “grey” will fulfil the task. As far as your eyes
could see, all was covered in dust and haunted by air pollution.
Though it was the first time I had been to the North part of China, I was still
surprised by the sharp contrast between the South and North. It wasn’t hearsay.
Plane shortened the distance and time between two places, and made the difference of Shanghai and Beijing even more obvious. My friend had been to Beijing before, still, he was amazed after the four-day trip.
When he first landed in Beijing, the first impression this city left on him was
its greyness. What followed after it was the coal smell. He had told me more than once that in his mind the smell of coal there after was associated with this whole country , especially the North part . I didn’t smell the coal. But when I
walked on the small lanes interspersed almost at every part of this city, I saw
a life style that was, in a way, similar to the time when people used coal home
in winter.
I know that if you want to know one city, you have to walk in it, and dodge those fake touristy places. So I did. Then I saw under blocks and blocks of roof howpeople live. Those numerous lanes, where tourists can’t reach, told you the essence and difference, if any, of life in this city from others. I saw the old chatting away in front of their weather-beaten gate; I heard the young, riding on
their bicycle or scampering around on the narrow alleys, talked and laughed in the twilight; and I smelled the stinky smell from public toilets which you may see everywhere.
Then talking here, would you think that Beijing had left on me nothing but negative impression? That wasn’t the case. Despite its drabness and dust, there was
something that stroked me and somewhat even made me envy. For example, I envied
its broad streets near * Square. It was so broad, long, and indifferent,
that a nameless respect and awe arose in my heart. I knew that people change, but the road would remain the same.
There were many aspects of Beijing that stoke, and even amazed me. Like when I sat on the shabby subway with my friend, I felt as if I was in a dream. I had never seen subway trains as this old and slow. Even the broadcast voice seemed unreal. But then ever since I arrived in Beijing, I often had the unreal feeling. Having dinner outdoors with lots of foreign tourists, sleeping in the hotel molested by mosquitoes and fainting noise from people’s houses, walking on Changan Street three o’clock in the morning, and climbing on the South part of the GreatWall to watch how packed with people the North part was. All this reminded me that I was on the way, that I was far away from where I was from. But I guess maybe this was exactly why people crave from travelling: What will happen is unexpected, so the journey is full of surprise and adventure.
