最好应该用HELP 来替换。要是想用benefit的话，第二句相对而言比较地道。两句都用得非谓语动词。第一句是不定式做目的状语，强调历史的目的是为了我们了解现在；而第二个句子是现在在分词做伴随状语，强调历史正在帮助我们了解现在。看看你要表达的是那种意境了。
