The wheels scooped up stones和stones which hammered ominously under the car.在逻辑上,两个动作在时间上是先后发生的（在理解上和翻译成中文时都是两个句子）,但这两个动作由一个定语从句合并在了一个复杂句中了.我不明白这种表达方式在英语里是习惯的表达还是特例?
