英语作文 Human Cloning,a blessing or a curse
Modern technology has changed the world as never before. Research advances over the past decade have told us that, with a little work, we humans can clone just anything we want, from frogs to monkeys and probably even ourselves. There is no doubt that this newly-born technique has considerable potential to unlock.
Medical researchers must be those who give the biggest thanks to clone. Given that the creature cloned from the adult cell has exactly the same gene as its parent, scientists can create a mass of animal models carrying disease-causing mutation with ease so that they have much more time focusing on studying the disease. Besides, farm animals such as cows, sheep and goats are currently being genetically engineered to produce drugs or proteins that are useful in medicine. Clone is a more speedy and convenient way to produce large herds of genetically engineered animals.
However, cloning human is only limited to the domains of medical science. It seems rather unsuitable to its advantages, so some societies strongly argue that the limits on cloning mankind should be abolished. They believe that cloning human offers an innovative way to cure the currently incurable diseases. For example, we can clone human cells, tissues and even organs to replace the damaged parts in order to cure diseases like cancer. Also, human cloning could make it possible for many more infertile couples to have children than ever before possible.
But such so-called benefits are impossible to outweigh the harm of cloning human. Initially, the human rights of the cloned ones prove to be an unexplainable issue. Certainly we can clone people for medical use, but they have their own thoughts. What should we do if they refuse to be our medical material? Shall we give them the basic freedom like normal ones? If we do, our efforts make no use at all. If not, there is an obvious violation of human rights. Actually, we create only a dilemma. What’s more, it threatened to lead to severe moral disorder. During the human cloning process, a lot of human embryos, the babies before birth, are created and tested for viability. Some are either discarded or frozen for future use. Imagine that the embryos are adults; will you kill or freeze them without any concern? While embryos are lives as well, it is undoubted that killing or freezing them for the simple reason that the technology needs improvement is unacceptable. Last and the most inevitable, we lack a powerful apparatus to restrict human cloning. What if someone clones millions of people to support the terrorism? What if someone feed cloning people as slaves? We all know that these plans must be prevented. But it is just too difficult for us to perceive them before they are finished.
The notion that cloning human should be permitted ignores a lot of what we know about people. It assumes all men, even the cloning ones, are all extremely kind and forgiving in the face of social principle and life, which can hardly be true even in the fairy tale. In the realistic world, there is little doubt that banning cloning human is the most efficient and reasonable measure.
