In the US,people prefer waiting for a table to sitting with people they don't know.
在这句中.they don't know是做定语么从句么?

to wait for a table, 然后, 后面为了前后一致,to sit with ..

people prefer to wait for a table to to sit with ...

people they don't know 的确是省略了whom
people (whom) they don't know

3、因为那个people是从句(they don't know)里的宾语,所以that可以省略。
