that 不能省,它是引导的两个并列句,省得就不和下面一个there is并列了

make efforts to do sth 努力做某事为什么要把exist 去掉呢，它本来就是要表达“没有希望”的意思，而且我觉得不能用there is no hope来表示没有希望吧，应该是there is no hope to do sth ,所以把there is no hope exists 改为there is no hope existing不可以吗？还有making any efforts 一定要加固定搭配吗，不可以直接作为一个动名词词组作there be 句型的主语？因为没有上下文，只能凭语感了，下文是there is no use of making any efforts to do sth，那么there is no hope +介词+ving比较合理。是不是可以理解为there is no hope （of making any efforts to do sth） and there is no use of making any efforts to dosth 。没有希望和没有希望存在，这个存在其实是多余的，符合中文习惯，不符合英文习惯，加existing视乎是多余的。仅供参考。
