This method can allocate new developmentsaround a fixed centroid to simulate the growth of urban patches.Thepatch-based simulation strategy we used is different from the algorithmproposed by Meentemeyer et al (2013).In this study,the patch-based simulationstrategy differentiates new developments into spontaneous growth and organicgrowth,and adopts a moving- window approach to simulate the evolution of urbanpatches (see Section 2.2 for more details).
The proposed Patch-Logistic-CA was testedthrough the simulation of urban growth in Guangzhou,China,during 2005-2012.The cell-based Logistic-CA was also implemented with the same set of data tomake a comparison.Additionally,the Patch-Logistic-CA was used to exploredifferent development alternatives for Guangzhou from 2012to 2020.
