第一句两句之间没有并列连词,只能看成一个主从复合句,用which引出一个非限制性定语从句
第二句两句间用了个分号,这样即各自相对独立.所以用指示代词了.
还可以改为并列句：
The weather turned out to be very good,and that was more than we could expect.
