prodelta (Fig.13; Magnier et al.,1979).
The Deltaic sequence is a 1600-2200 ft interval of
interbedded sandstones,siltstones,coals,shales
and rare limestones (Fig.14).It is the most
important interval in the field, having contributed
about 73% of Attaka production by end-1992 (Fig.
15; Trevena et al.,1993).Much of this production is
from the RT reservoir near the top of the Deltaic
sequence. The RT reservoir is subdivided into four
sand units by discontinuous shales, and is
dominated by vertically stacked,fining-upward,
coarse- to very fine-grained sandstones, which are
interpreted as tidally influenced distributary-channel
and fluvial-channel fills (Figs.16 and 17).Subordinate
coarsening-upward intervals,c.20 ft thick,are
interpreted as prograding delta-front bar complexes.
Intermittent coals,up to 3 ft thick,are associated
with transgressive surfaces and are developed on
poorly drained delta plains as a result of delta-lobe
abandonment or relative sea-level rise (Fig.18).
The Shallow sequence straddles the Pleistocene/
Upper Miocene unconformity,which marks a
change from delta-plain to shallow open-marine and
delta-front environments.The interval extends from
the sea floor to c.4000 ft TVSS and its upper part
contains generally economically insignificant
volumes of gas.In the lower part,fluvial-channel
sandstones form a number of important reservoirs.
One such reservoir,the 37-4 sand,for example,has
a STOIIP of 27 MMBO and 12 BCF solution gas
(Zagalai et al.,1992).
